Began in 1825. The department was organized in 1833, and consisted of 17 members. In 1840, they built an engine house. And in 1872, they purchased another engine to supplement the 1825 equipment. In 1946, the current organization was incorporated.

Vernon Agricultural Society & Vernon Fair

Early horse races ran from Heinig’s Corners to Route 5. Eventually, the association purchased the property which is now Vernon Downs, constructing a race track and in 1904, a grandstand. In 1923, the grandstand was enlarged for viewing of baseball and races. A floral hall was erected in 1921, with four buildings for exhibits. Additional […]
